I paint because I can't stop

Jorge Rubert, figurative painter, Valencia

I'm Jorge Rubert, a self-taught painter born in 1976 and based in Valencia, Spain.

I paint in Acrylics and oils in the tradition of the Spanish and Italian Baroque and the Old Masters I have always admired. What pulls me in is their light, their composition, and the way a painting can feel like an experience and not just an image.

Why I keep going

I don't really decide to paint. It is something I simply cannot stop. I'm not trying to explain everything. I want you to feel the person in the picture, and the painting itself: the brushwork, the layers, the quiet tension in the space around the figure. I hope it stays with you after you leave the room

Bringing a painting home

Many of you will know my work through the prints, made from my original paintings and available in sizes to suit most walls. Thank you for bringing independent painting into your home.
